We start the trip with a tour of the remains of the magnificent medieval mountain castle of St. Hilarion, which every visitor to North Cyprus simply must see. Its location on the mountain offers an incredible panoramic view of the Kyrenia coast itself. St. Hilarion Castle is famous for having inspired Walt Disney in designing the castle from the cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We continue our journey with a visit to the Bellapais monastery, which is one of the most beautiful masterpieces of Gothic art in the Middle East. As far as is known, the first monks who settled here were the Augustinians. In 1187, these monks had to flee from Jerusalem, which was conquered by the Turkish ruler Saladin. This is followed by a tour of the city port, where we will see the imposing fortress that dominates the entrance to the port itself. This fascinating building offers a wonderful view of the entire city. The fortress also houses a museum of old ships, which displays some of the oldest shipwrecks, along with the cargo they carried. A visit to Famagusta will be fascinating for history buffs, especially for a tour of the ancient city of Salamis. The city described in Homer's epics was once the largest and richest city in ancient history. The theater, gymnasium and other structures from the Roman period are very well preserved and will give you an insight into the architecture of this magnificent era. This is followed by a visit to the monastery of St. Barnabas. There you will see the beautiful Museum of Icons, then the richly equipped Archaeological Museum and the chapel that was built over the tomb of the Apostle Barnabas. Next is a tour of the old part of the city of Famagusta: the Venetian fortifications, Lala Mustafa Pasha's mosque, originally known as the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, which is also the largest medieval building in Famagusta. Built between 1298 and 1400. The cathedral was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman Empire conquered Famagusta in 1571, and since 1954 it has been named after Lala Mustafa Pasha, the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire from Sokolović in Bosnia, who served Murat III and led the Ottoman forces against the Venetians in Cyprus.
